On tsunami day in Oahu, we were stuck on the porch all morning… so I took some macro pictures of this flowering aloe plant. Pretty, pretty!

I just moved into my new home yesterday! I love decorating a new space and making it your own, but it’s a tough job on a starving-artists budget! I recently visited my mom’s friend while we were in Hawaii and her house was a zen-out-doors-relaxation paradise. She is a pilates instructor in Kauai and her home reflects both her personality and her work. I was totally inspired by her and her home. I hope to be able to find cute little things to put in my room to make it my own. I found these lovely things on Pottery Barn’s website. Looks like I’m going to have to break into my mason jar collection to recreate these cool little candle holders! The lamp might be a little more tricky, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something. Stay tuned!
Say hello to Lucy. A little gecko friend Dan and I made on our deck in Hawaii. We got a couple good shots of her that I will be sure to use in some future posters. What a babe.

I just got this picture sent to me from a client this week. She had me design a logo and poster for a Haiti fundraiser. I recommended the green ink on a brown tee and I am pretty happy with how they turned out. The event also got on the front page of the Duxbury Reporter. The fundraiser is this Friday, so be sure to check it out. Find out more about this event on the Duxbury Student Union’s website!
A couple pictures from this past weekend. We took a trip over to Kauai to visit some friends that were staying on the North shore. Surfed the first day and then took a 6 hour hike up the Hanakapai Falls trail. Very beautiful. This is just a quick taste. More photos to come.
Here is a little retro poster I did for a upcoming Pilgrim Church event. I used this new font I found and love: Honey Script. Find out more about Susan Yates and this event on Pilgrim’s website.
Here is a poster I did for a local fundraiser. I liked this project. A fun little coffee shop poster for a good cause. I pulled the color scheme: “Haiti Relief” from kuler. Kuler is the best, most successfully designed color swatch site I’ve seen. I use it when I need a little color inspiration. The client ended up choosing a cooler (green/purple/teal) scheme, but I prefer this one. Anyway, I hope you like it! To find out more about this event you can visit The Duxbury Student Unions site.
Inspiration for art comes from all different places. I take color schemes from duvet covers, textures from vintage fabrics and sometimes I take inspiration straight from a dream I had the night before. I love when Smashing Magazine updates their “Inspiration” blog. Seeing other artists creations helps me to be more creative in my own designs. One of my professors in college told me that in order to be a great artists, you have to learn to look at and appreciate a lot of art. It’s true, the best artists are the inspired ones.
Here is an example of a band poster I did. I pulled inspiration from my love for American pin-up girls.
I have always been interested in how things work. As an artist, I am especially interested in how artists work. How they develop a concept from paper to the final product. Most artists have their own structure and way of working. I have found that you can tell a lot about an artist by the way that they work. In fact, you can differentiate between who is truly an artist and who just took a couple “How-To-Adobe CS4″ classes. I’m hoping to put together a “process” section in my site that shows my ideas from concept to complete. Here’s a preview- A desktop for Hollywood East TV. Speaker girl. xoxo
